Legend has it that during World War II, British and American pilots discovered that eating bilberry jam before night missions greatly improved their night vision.Bilberry is native in Northern Europe, North America, Rocky Mountains and Alps with altitude of 1500-2500 meter. Now it is also available in Eastern Europe, Russia, Poland and Ukraine. But because of latitude, sunshine and rainfall, anthocyanin in bilberry varies dramatically in different areas of Europe. Studies show that anthocyanin content in bilberry sourced from Sweden and Finland is higher than that in the other areas.
